About Us
Destec was formed in 1969 by the company's present owners and has stayed a Private Limited Company ever since. Over more than 50 years of trading, the business has developed both products and services for industry, with High Pressure Containment and On-Site Machining standing out as the two specialist lines.
The management team's roots go back further still. Between 1959 and 1969 they were heavily involved in the design, manufacture, sales and marketing of Ruston-Grayloc clamp-type pipe connectors and seals. From 1969 to 1972 Destec was engaged directly by Gray Tool Co. (Grayloc) to continue that work in the high pressure pipe connector market on the company's behalf. That grounding shaped everything that followed.
Since 1969 Destec has designed and manufactured portable machine tools, originally to install and service its own products, and this has grown into a genuine On-Site Machining Service. The range of in-house designed and built portable machine tools is now versatile enough to cover most machine shop operations on-site, anywhere in the world.
At home, the workshop runs a wide selection of CNC lathes, vertical boring machines and milling machines, with turning capacity up to 2 metres diameter and 1.5 metres high, and milling capacity up to 3 metres long. An experienced design team supports every product with calculations and stress analysis using AutoCAD, Inventor and Cosmos M finite element analysis, including building and running test rigs.
Destec's principal clients sit in Oil, Chemical and Petrochemical, Power Generation, Steel and Marine, and anywhere high pressure containment is critical. The company operates a Quality System approved to ISO 9001, with full material traceability backed by dedicated personnel and up to date equipment. Standard products carry Lloyds Type Approval, the kind of independent verification that matters most in these industries.
