Copper Alloy for Sliding Applications

A copper alloy for sliding applications needs good friction behaviour and wear resistance. Copper nickel tin performs well in sliding contact. GMX 96 offers very high mechanical strength and excellent resistance to stress relaxation. GMX 215, an NGK exclusive, brings thermal stability and heat resistance above 200 °C, with elasticity that exceeds copper-beryllium alloys. Across the range, the alloys combine mechanical strength, thermal stability, corrosion resistance and friction performance, though electrical conductivity is lower than the Berylco beryllium copper grades.

Copper-nickel-tin is worth a look when a design needs strength and heat resistance but conductivity is less critical, or when a beryllium-free material is preferred. For high current contacts, beryllium copper still leads.

For springs that run hot, bearings and bushings, and parts exposed to friction and corrosion, the GMX grades often come out on top. NGK Berylco can compare both families against your specification.
