Alternative to Beryllium Copper
An alternative to beryllium copper is sometimes needed for specification or policy reasons. GMX copper nickel tin offers comparable or better strength in many applications. With more than 50 years in high performance copper alloys, NGK Berylco supplies UK, Irish and Nordic customers through its Salford office, backed by the wider NGK Group.
GMX 96 offers very high mechanical strength and excellent resistance to stress relaxation. GMX 215, an NGK exclusive, brings thermal stability and heat resistance above 200 °C, with elasticity that exceeds copper-beryllium alloys. Across the range, the alloys combine mechanical strength, thermal stability, corrosion resistance and friction performance, though electrical conductivity is lower than the Berylco beryllium copper grades.
Copper-nickel-tin is worth a look when a design needs strength and heat resistance but conductivity is less critical, or when a beryllium-free material is preferred. For high current contacts, beryllium copper still leads.
NGK Berylco alloys go into aerospace, automotive, electronics, telecommunications, energy, defence, medical, hydrogen, home appliances, watchmaking and oil and gas applications. Wherever strength, conductivity and reliability have to work together, these materials earn their place.
NGK Berylco's GMX copper-nickel-tin range is a family of beryllium-free alloys built for demanding specifications on temperature resistance, friction and corrosion. Grades include GMX 96 (C72700), GMX 215 (C72950) and GMX 158 (C72900), supplied as strip and as rod and wire.
Every coil, rod and component is backed by certified systems: ISO 9001, the aerospace standard EN 9100, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. In-house testing and inspection keep properties consistent from batch to batch.
